Dr. Richard B. Aguilar

Dr. Richard B. Aguilar is the Chief Clinical Officer of Cano Health, Inc. (NYSE: CANO), a leading value-based primary care provider for seniors and underserved communities.  Since joining the company in 2015, he has overseen the clinical strategy and development of the enterprise, which has grown from one single South Florida clinic to 106 medical centers with over 1,000 clinicians and affiliate providers serving 197,000 members across the country.

Cano Health’s shares began trading on the New York Stock Exchange (“NYSE”) under the symbol “CANO” on June 4, 2021, enabling the enterprise to further accelerate its growth and fulfill its vision of becoming America’s leader in primary care.

Under Dr. Aguilar’s leadership, Cano Health has consistently achieved the highest standards in clinical excellence. These include Five-Star recognition for Medicare and Medicaid quality metrics as best performing primary care provider under three major health plans in Florida.

A world-renowned diabetes care expert, Dr. Aguilar has been recognized across three states by the American Diabetes Association/National Committee for Quality Assurance (ADA/NCQA) as a recipient of the Diabetes Physician Recognition Program. His most recent publications on diabetes management appeared in Clinical Therapeutics, Diabetes Care, and Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine.  He also served as lead author in Cano Health’s publication on COVID-19 clinical outcomes in Frontiers in Medicine (October 2020). He has also presented nationally and internationally at over 150 medical symposia.

Dr. Aguilar earned his medical degree from the University of California, Irvine College of Medicine and completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at UC Irvine Medical Center and Long Beach Veterans Administration Medical Center. He has maintained his private practice for over 30 years in Downey and Huntington Park, California, serving the Latino community. Prior to joining Cano Health, he also acted as Chief of Medicine and Chief of ICU at several hospitals.

He is married and the proud father of three children.
