Melissa Barrera is a Mexican actor born and raised in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. She studied musical theatre at CAP21 as a part of New York University (Tisch School of the Arts). She moved back to Mexico city when she was selected to compete in the singing reality show La Academia and afterwards took roots in Mexico City and started a career in telenovelas. During the four years she did telenovelas like Siempre Tuya Acapulco and Tanto Amor, she also continued her career on the stage in Mexico playing the lead roles in the musicals Spring Awakening, Young Frankenstein and the spanish juke-box musical Hoy No Me Puedo Levantar. She played Isabel in the acclaimed Netflix original Club de Cuervos and then decided to crossover and try her luck in Los Angeles. She booked the role of Lyn Hernandez on the Starz critically acclaimed Tv show VIDA and will star as Vanessa in the upcoming movie adaptation of Lin Manuel Miranda's Tony winning In The Heights.
